CURTOM-DUNSMUIR: Transforming Communities through Construction
“… being able to go into struggling communities and taking part in positive change for the people, is beyond rewarding. I am able to put my head and my heart into a business that aligns with my personal passions.”
Truly innovative construction requires more than high-tech architectural plans. Creative thinking and a very organized set of systems to interpret and see the process through, is also key. Understanding that construction is not just about the trades, the nuts and bolts or apps and widgets; but about creating a specific vision, is what yields innovation. As general contractors, Brenda and Ronnie have to know a little about everything and interpret a range of details from project to project; commercial and residential. This requires an extremely high-level of technical and people skills, and an advanced aptitude for multi-tasking and thinking on your feet.
So, when the LA Stadium began its search for a general contractor to oversee the construction of the planned Switch Gear building earlier this year, Curtom came highly-qualified and highly-recommended. Furthermore, ownership looks to utilize Inglewood-based MBE/DBE firms as much as possible to meet project requirements of 18%, with a goal of 30% participation. The Switch Gear Building will house all of Southern California Edison’s electrical equipment which will keep the stadium running with powerful 12,000-volt charges of energy. This is a critical structure for the site. It ensures zero disruption to residential power sources, so expectations of the highest quality are standard.
This is the first Curtom-led project on the LA Stadium site, but Brenda and Ronnie are certainly focused on the next round of contracting needs. It’s how the business flows, one thing leads to the next. The Switch Gear construction is scheduled for completion in August and they expect to deliver the high quality for which Curtom-Dunsmuir is known. Having also worked on the redevelopment of The Forum (Curtom was contracted to oversee all of the seating), the prospect of contributing to yet another iconic and historic project in Inglewood, is exceedingly attractive.
