Profile: Sam Peña
Sam Peña, Executive Vice President, Inglewood Airport Area Chamber of Commerce. “Great things happen one conversation at a time, as one member reaches out to another.”
Seizing The Moment
As the City of Inglewood enjoys unprecedented growth and investment, the timing couldn’t be better for the Inglewood Airport Area Chamber of Commerce (IAACC) to identify new leadership committed to engaging businesses small and large.
Earlier this year the IAACC named Sam Peña as Executive Vice President to lead the charge to increase the Chamber’s regional visibility and boost membership. Sam is an accomplished businessman who has worked as an executive for Republic Services, and a committed public servant who served as a Parks and Recreation Senior Recreation Leader for the City of Maywood. He eventually served as Mayor of Maywood for ten years.
As the Chamber’s new Executive Vice President, Sam jumped right in reviewing and modernizing internal processes to ensure they align with City initiatives. This includes ensuring businesses are committed to local hiring, capitalizing on reinvestment, increasing the housing stock for all income levels, and attracting new businesses to the Chamber.
One of the main goals of the Chamber is to direct members to existing resources, provide opportunities for networking – all toward the goal of establishing and sustaining meaningful relationships.
Business Accelerator Mondays
In addition to managing staff, and leading and coordinating board activities, Sam is excited to serve the membership by offering other benefits such as Business Accelerator Mondays. This program is for Chamber members who are interested in applying for low-interest, capital improvement loans through a City-sponsored Growth Fund.
The fund was created to help existing businesses keep pace with regulatory mandates that require business capital improvements or operational adjustments. Sam strongly encourages members to take advantage of this benefit because he knows that helping businesses respond to market changes is key to stimulating job creation, which is among the Chamber’s top priorities.
Sam Peña is an active member of the MTA Gateway Cities Council and Compton Unified School District Asset Assessment Committee. He is a graduate of UCLA.
