Spotlight: LAX Tacos
Celebrating 30 Years
In 1988, a young married couple living in Inglewood opened a restaurant. Little did they know it would go on to become one of the city’s most well-known eateries, LAX Tacos. Sonia and Jesus Miranda braved the ups-and-downs of owning a business and raising a family — three daughters, one son and a grandchild on the way — and are now celebrating 30 years serving the Inglewood community.
We asked eldest daughter Cecilia what the family loves most about Inglewood: “The diversity in the people that reside in the city. And since the restaurant is so close to the airport we get customers from all over the world. We love the fact that Inglewood is in the middle of everything — close to the beach, close to the freeways. Our great relationship with the city has made it possible to expand by adding a parking lot and a drive-thru.”
Regarding the business opportunities in Inglewood, Cecilia says, “My parents noticed the difference when the Lakers left Inglewood — it brought down profits. But growth has been unbelievable throughout the city in the last few years. When my parents started 30 years ago there was not much around, and to see all the economic growth and Latino businesses emerging in Inglewood is something that makes us proud. We’re excited for the Rams and Clippers to come to Inglewood and bring new customers into the city. We’d love to expand in Inglewood to provide authentic, traditional Mexican food to more people. We’d love to show that family businesses can continue to thrive in Inglewood.”
